Once you've been tagged, you are supposed to write a note with 25 random things, facts, habits, or goals about you. At the end, choose 25 people to be tagged. You have to tag the person who tagged you. If I tagged you, it's because I want to know more about you.
___________
1. I was born on March 6--the day the Alamo fell! I usually added that bit of historical trivia but recently a child's comment made me rethink the wisdom of it. He asked earnestly, "Are you really that old?"
2. I was born on a record setting day--the coldest day recorded on that date up to that time. The record held until the 1970s. I remember this from Daddy's telling of the story.
3. I have a scar on my chin--the result of an accident in the second grade. In the same incident I bit a hole through my tongue and spit a piece of it out. That was a bad day for me.
4. Thomas and I lived in Switzerland and Germany between 1966 through 1982.
5. My first name, Barbara, is the name of my Mother's best friend. My middle name, June, is the name of my Mother's sister (my aunt). My last name was my Daddy's family name. And, of course, I took my husbands family name when we married. So who am I, really? :)
6. I have two brothers and one sister. They call me Sit--as do their kids and their kids' kids!
7. I wear size 7 1/2 shoes. In Birkenstocks I wear 38.
8. I enjoy baking bread--multi-grain peasant bread is my favorite because it reminds me of bread we had in Switzerland.
9. When I met Amy Grant the first time we were in Windisch, Switzerland. I introduced myself to her and she replied, "The Barbara Minton?" (I wonder if she remember the incident.)
10. My maternal grandmother, Mama Brown, made the best blackberry cobbler that I have ever tasted. And her yeast rolls were equally good. She would make either from scratch at the drop of a hat. Oh to have received a portion of her abilities to cook!
11. My Daddy is a Texas fiddler born in 1917 and continues to do the things he enjoys--fiddling and gardening. Last February he was inducted into the Coryell County Music Hall of Fame and last Thanksgiving he was still selling collard greens from his garden. I hope I inherit his longevity, tenacity, and good health.
12. My son and two daughters were born in Europe: our son in Zurich, one daughter in Munich, and the other one in Basel.
13. On April 1, 2001 I was ordained in the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Sweetwater, TX. We celebrated God's foolishness.
14. This year I will celebrate 50 years of walking with the Lord. In 1959 I "made the good confession" and was baptized in Belton, TX. ...no turning back, no turning back.
15. The year I went to college the Berlin Wall went up. The year I went to seminary the Berlin Wall came down. The world asks me, "Barbara, why did you wait so long to go to seminary?"
16. Once in Nashville I almost ran into Reba McIntire in Kroger's supermarket. I had rushed in to pick up a quick item and saw a woman looking for something. It seemed as if this was not her regular market and that she was a little frustrated. I almost stopped to ask if I could help her, but I was in a hurry and "passed by on the other side." Thomas was waiting for me by the door. When I came out he asked if I had seen Reba while I was in there. That was when I realized who I had seen. (This would have been a better story if I had been the Good Samaritan.)
17. While we lived in TX I taught two General Psychology classes in the TX State Prison through the community college in Snyder TX. Each week I went behind the walls and taught men young enough t o be my sons. They were the best students I've ever taught.
18. Thomas and I live on 10 acres in southwest Missouri. 7 of the acres are wooded. Today four turkeys walked out of the woods and visited our front yard, leaving their calling cards.
19. I have served in two hospitals as a chaplain (TX and KY) and as a Hospice chaplain in KY. I've served three churches as pulpit minister--one in KY, one in TX, and one in MO. For two years in TX I also served the United Methodist Church as Minister to Children. (I wonder if that was a title or a command.)
20. Thomas and I vowed our love and faithfulness to one another in August 1963.
21. Last August we went to Switzerland to celebrate our 45 years together as husband and wife.
22. I preached for the first time in December 1992 at Paint Lick Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Paint Lick, KY. The congregation called me to be their student pastor on January 1, 1993. Actually Thomas and I served as co-pastors for the next 2 1/2 years.
23. Thomas and I have 8 grand kids--4 in Louisville, KY; 2 in Atlanta, GA; and 2 in Lexington, KY.
24. On a recent morning the new fallen snow let us know that a rabbit hopped out of the woods and explored our yard.
25. Driving to Springfield earlier this week we say a red fox cross the highway. Coming home later in the day we saw two deer in the edge of the woods. God's beautiful Creation is good.
