Well, I get up at my usual time this morning to work on my sermon for Sunday. I assume it will be my regular routine for Monday-Tuesday, and that is, reading, pondering, praying, looking at the hymns that Claudine selected to go with the scriptures... the process of mulling, considering the present state of the congregation, wondering what the word is for the time being. Then by Wednesday I am usually ready to begin writing; first the communion thoughts, (We have weekly communion, open to all believers.) then the sermon.
This morning I got up at 5:00 a.m., started the coffee, went to my briefcase for my sermon folder, only to discover the folder and my other reading materials are still at the church office. Bummer. I feel frustrated, anticipating a quiet time of reading, pondering, and spiritual preparation toward the Sunday message only to find my resources missing.
So I take the time to go onto Facebook and check up on my friends. The experience is exhilarating because I can see faces and am touched by lives I've not seen in decades. And each one brings up a memory sweet and treasured. The Lord calms my frustrated soul and prepares me for the day ahead. Sweet! And the Lord assures me that my reading and pondering will get done--eventually.
