Just a quick follow up on the previous post. Late yesterday afternoon, with digital camera in hand, I visited the feathers in the edge of the woods once more, this time photographing them. My photographs are first a long shot and then a close up of the point of interest.
This initial area of interest, the spot where the incident took place, is made up primarily of small feathers and down.
Then I carefully followed the feather trail into the woods.
Just inside the the woods I observed a clump of feathers, different from the ones in the initial area. Turkey feathers, yes, but the short brown, square ended ones.
Stepping further into the trees I saw another clump of long feathers--but still no evidence of a carcass or any remnant bones.
In these two areas the leaves seemed to be pressed down as if an animal might have slept there. I didn't linger long and didn't venture farther into the woods since there was no clear path.
I made the crime scene investigation late in the afternoon and stepping into the shadows of the woods gave me an eerie feeling... did I mention that Thomas was with his congregation for Bushwhackers Days, so I was into this adventure all by myself! As 'eerie' sort of rippled through my neck muscles I looked up into the tree branches--just in case a bobcat was resting above ground. But I saw nothing. So I went back to the house and locked the door behind me just to appease my 'eerie' feeling.
This morning after worship one of the elders who had read my previous blog informed me that bobcats, coyotes, and bears have been reported in this area of Missouri! Yikes! Bobcats, coyotes, and bears! Oh my!
