Obituay for Doyle L. Taylor

Doyle Lodric Taylor died early Wednesday, January 13 , at Scott and White Hospital surrounded by family. He was born on July 1, 1917 in Flat, TX to Robert Tate and Lilly Dixon Taylor. He grew up around Owl Creek and attended County Line school in Coryell County.

Doyle married Doris Brown in 1940. From that union came two sons and two daughters, nine grandchildren, and twenty great-grandchildren. Today their family is scattered throughout Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Missouri, Tennessee, and Texas. Doris preceded him in death in 2002
Doyle worked hard all his life, whether he was picking cotton in west Texas, running a grocery store in Salado or the Mound, farming in Jarrell, plowing fields in the Lampasas River bottom, running cattle on the army reservation, building fences in south Texas, or baling hay for the public, he worked hard and provided well for his family.

For many years Doyle was a Brand Inspector for the Cattlemen’s Association, catching rustlers and breaking up cattle thief rings. He retired as the oldest brand inspector in Texas. Doyle also retired from farming decades ago and is best known now for his fiddling, his domino and checker playing, and his home-grown vegetables sold at local farmers’ markets. He loved his garden and he enjoyed his fiddle. He was inducted into the Gatesville Country Music Hall of Fame in 2008.

Doyle was a member of the Belton Church of Christ and also attended the Grace Presbyterian Church with his wife Marion Littlefield Taylor of Temple. Other survivors include his sons and their families: Bobby and Judy Taylor with Mari Coppin and Brian; Terry and Sandra Taylor of Belton with Maria Villela and Zack. His daughters and their families are Brenda and Rick Campbell with Quinton Locklin and Elizabeth Moore; Barbara and Thomas Minton with Alana Sheldahl, Rebecca Westerman, and Don.

Doyle will be missed by his family and friends but we are confident of God’s grace and celebrate his life.
