"...before the creation of the earth."

Devotional reading for John 1:1-5, 10-18; Ephesians 1:3-14.

To glimpse into the heart of God stretch your mind back before time began. At the eternal core of God’s being we find love, glowing with glory, grace, truth, life and light. Before time began these qualities existed in God and with a spoken word, light from the heart of God began to shine in the darkness!

Centuries passed. Promises were made to Abraham. Laws were given through Moses but God’s people failed to listen, so prophets arose calling for repentance and righteousness, but with little response. The faithful few waited for God’s promises to be fulfilled. Then the word, spoken at creation, became flesh and lived among us.

The physical birth of Jesus opened a door allowing us to become children of God, born of God. The spiritual blessing in Christ becomes our birthright when the Word became flesh. The gospels of Matthew and Luke tell about the physical birth of Jesus. The gospel of John and the letter to the Ephesians tell about our spiritual birth!

The place of blessing, chosen before time began, is in Christ who has come from the Father, full of grace and truth. When we find our place in Christ we are set apart for God’s purposes, sealed by the promised Holy Spirit. We become children of God, legal heirs to the promises, in line to receive an eternal inheritance.
